December Wrap-Up

So, December is gone, Christmas is over, the New-Year's-Eve-hangover is cured.... Time to look back on what I read in the last month of 2017! The Cancer Journals / Audre Lorde A wonderful, moving look into Audre Lorde's thoughts and feelings about her breast cancer and her breast amputation. She advocates not using a prosthesis, so as not to become invisible to the world as a breast cancer patient. A very personal insight and a feminist read. Rated four stars. Northern Lights (His Dark Materials 1) / Philip Pullman I really liked this. So atmospheric, such beautiful language, and a fascinating world where people live with part of their souls being daemons in the form of animals. Beware: I watched the film – unfortunately, it's no good. No wonder the movie series was never continued. The film changed a lot of plotlines, omitted many things and just couldn't catch the enchanting atmosphere of this book. Rated four stars. The Subtle Kn...

After I've finally finished Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials"-series, here comes correspondent book tag, originally created by Holly Dunn Design on Youtube. 1. What editions of the books do you have? Like almost all of my books, I read this series on my Kindle. Which is kind of a shame, because the books are so beautiful. But there's just no more space on my shelves.... 2. Which is your favourite book? Definitely the first one. I loved the language, the setting, the story, the mystery..... With every book, the story got more confusing, and my reading experience wasn't that enjoyable anymore. I just didn't think that all the strands of the story were nicely tied up in the end. From the first book, I was expecting something quite different than what I got. 3. Who is your favourite character? Does Pantalaimon count as a character?
