Why I love my Kindle

Yeah, I know... Loving your kindle isn't as popular as loving physical books. But let me assure you: I LOVE physical books. They're beautiful to look at, to feel in your hands, and to receive in the mail. And the beautiful shelves of course! Imagine the sadness of a kindle shelf....

BUT.

I love my kindle as well. I never thought I would, and waited a very long time to purchase one. Way to long as I now know. Until I stopped buying new books because I just didn't have any more space on my shelves, and didn't want to let go of old books to make room for new ones.

So the time had come. I ordered a kindle. And it opened up a new world for me. You have to know that while I love libraries I just couldn't seem to get on with them in the last few years. Where I live they're quite expensive, and a hassle to use. And, I have to admit, I do like owning books and having them ready to look at or re-read all the time. Maybe that's weird, but that's just the way I work. So ordering a kindle changed my reading life. I read all the time now, and it's just amazing.

Here's why I love my kindle (this applies to most E-readers of course. I just happen to have a kindle):

1. All the books!

There are absolutely no restrictions anymore on my book-buying (apart from my budget, oops...). I can buy all the books I want, because space just isn't an issue anymore. So I just read and read and read, and whenever I finish a book, I immediately order the next one.

2. The Choosing

And the choosing process... How wonderful! Before, I used to order many books at once, and put them in my shelves. But once I got around to reading them, another book had become more interesting in my mind and so I ordered that.... I kept ordering books, while not reading the ones I already owned. Now, the process is easy. I finish a book, and order a new one. Exactly the one I want to read right now. And then I read it. I usually read three books at the same time and try not to read more – that's how I avoid forgetting about one or just not finishing it. And the process of browsing through my Goodreads TBR and choosing exactly the book I want to read right now and then to start reading it just seconds later, is just wonderful!

3. Never fear the darkness

This one's simple: The kindle has a backlight. I can read wherever and whenever I want. It's also such a nice reading experience – I love the feel of it in my hands, it's very light and my eyes don't tire as quickly. I was struggling reading the third Game of Thrones book when I ordered my kindle, because it was so big and the font so small. I ordered it on my kindle – and (almost) flew through it!

4. All the books! Everywhere!

Another obvious one: I have all the books with me, at all times. My kindle is so small and light, I take it everywhere. Like, everywhere. So when I tire of reading one book during a long train journey, i just switch to another – they're all with me on my kindle! Having my books with me all the time is just a dream come true.

5. The love

This one's the result of all the above: I have fallen in love with reading again. After school, university and lots of reading at work I did still read sometimes, but mostly I fell prey to Netflix and YouTube videos. As strange as it sound, my kindle really has opened up the world of reading for me again. My subscription list on YouTube has totally changed: There almost only BookTubers on there now. I'm reading all the time, which is so beautiful, because I used to read so many books when I was a child and a teenager. It's like I have found a piece of myself which got lost during my years as an adult. I'm a true bookworm again, and loving it.

What do you prefer? Physical books or e-readers? Or do you love both? I'd love to hear your opinions and experiences.

Happy reading!
